The person behind the idea

Why I’m creating MemoriMate

Between Christmas 2017 and July 2018, I lost my bonus sister, my mother and my father.

My mother died suddenly, before I had the chance to say goodbye. I cared for my father during the last six months of his life. Even with that time together, there were questions I never asked and things I wasn’t prepared for.

Those experiences are the reason behind MemoriMate. I want to help other families have those conversations, preserve their stories and share what matters while they still have the opportunity.

My vision includes the things that help us understand and care for one another: our memories, wishes, values and the practical knowledge we want to pass on. AI can offer a gentle helping hand, with the person always in control of their own story.

AI Advantage · Design concept

A simpler way
to keep a story.

A focused first step towards Merete Strandhøj’s wider MemoriMate vision: helping families preserve life stories, wishes, personal preferences and practical guidance for the people they love.

  1. Begin with a memory.
  2. Use a gentle prompt if you get stuck.
  3. Keep your story and come back to it.

The future AI role: listen, ask thoughtful follow-up questions and help shape a draft for the person to review. The wider vision includes preserving favourite music, food, traditions and everyday preferences to help loved ones understand and support a person as life changes. This prototype tests one small part: telling and keeping a memory.

This is an interactive design prototype. The guided prompts are scripted; no live AI or audio recording is connected. New memories stay in this tab’s memory and reset when the page reloads. Photos and sample stories are illustrative. The participation form is live: beta registrations and ideas are saved separately for Merete to review.
